Posting Guidelines

The Trisomy 18 Foundation has established the following guidelines for use of the community boards. The intent of these guidelines is ensuring the continued integrity of the community by keeping the focus of the posts on support.

Responsibilities and rights

a. Please bear in mind that what you read in our community areas is other users' opinions and stories. We trust you'll find much that is helpful and informative, but please consult your physician or other professional before relying on any information you find here. Trisomy 18 Foundation is not responsible for the accuracy of any posts by registered users and is not liable for any damage or loss that may result from your reliance on what other users have said.

b. You agree not to post any abusive, obscene, vulgar, slanderous, hateful, threatening, sexually orientated, or any other material that may violate any applicable laws. Doing so may lead to you being immediately and permanently banned. Creating multiple accounts for a single user is not allowed. Impersonating any other registered users, or attempting to create a false impression of yourself as a parent with a Trisomy 18 child will be considered fraudulent activity and will not be permitted. You agree that the webmaster, administrator and moderators of this site have the right to remove, edit, move or close any topic at any time, and for any reason they see fit.

c. You acknowledge that all Trisomy 18 Foundation communications, including chat and message board posts, are public and not private communications. You grant Trisomy 18 Foundation the right to modify and publish; both on our site and in other media, any information or images you post in our community areas.

d. You agree that Trisomy 18 Foundation has the right to delete any post and terminate any account (that is, ban a user) with or without notice, at any time and for any reason, including, without limitation, our judgment that you've violated the Community Guidelines. You also acknowledge that we have no obligation to delete content that you find personally objectionable or offensive.

e. By using the community areas you agree to abide by our guidelines and to submit to their interpretation and enforcement by our staff.

Please don't post anything you don't have the right to publish or violate any copyright or other proprietary rights in your posts. That includes excerpting published articles without the author's permission. We'll delete posts that contain any such violations.

Advertising and solicitations

No solicitation is allowed on the forum boards. Posting links and soliciting visits to websites other than support group only or personal websites is prohibited. Solicitations and advertising do not contribute to the goal of support. In addition, we have no control over the quality of those venues and so we prefer not to send our members there. Our research into the experiences of other Online Communities leads us to caution you to avoid "solicitations and advertising" to outside venues and sites to avoid the "fate" of other online communities that declined and failed over time. The proliferation of these types of posts crowding out focused communication between members leads to the Community feeling "too commercial" and "referral-driven" over time (akin to classified ads to lots of items and services by outside entities) and endangers the culture of sharing and caring thoughtful posting between members.

a. Any post that refers people to an alternative site that is soliciting money (including fundraisers or paid conferences or workshops held by other organizations), or a site other than a personal memorial site may be deleted from the forums without prior notice.

b. All requests for subjects for interviews or participants for studies must be submitted to Executive Director of the Trisomy 18 Foundation. Posts soliciting such subjects will be removed from the site.

Mentioning other Web sites
It's perfectly okay to mention, link to, or discuss other Web sites that are of interest to our users, as long as they do not violate our other guidelines.

To suggest a permanent link to our resource section of the website, please contact the Community Managers or Moderators The Community Manager will investigate the link. If there is an opportunity for Trisomy 18 Foundation to "partner" with another suggested organization or site and share reciprocal links or sponsor joint projects, each organization will evaluate that opportunity based on their internal policies.

We will delete posts that, in our judgment, mention or link to other Web sites for the sole purpose of encouraging our users to participate elsewhere or raise money or purchase items from other organizations.

Mentioning other families
We have an obligation to protect the privacy of all community members as well as all others who might be mentioned (see our Privacy Policy). In order to protect the privacy of all, we ask that you do not “report on” or share information that is not already publicly available (eg on a website or newspaper article, etc.) about other families or children without express written permission on file with the staff. This is particularly important when the family being mentioned is not part of our community. We want to ensure that they have given permission for their situation to be discussed on the forum boards beforehand.

We know that sometimes community members ask others to pass on news at times when it is inconvenient for them to post. Unless the family has expressly asked for a specific person to be their spokesperson, we cannot allow this information to be posted. Please have those members PM or email their permission to a staff member prior to the time of the posting. Postings made regarding other families (including prayer requests) without express written permission will be deleted.

Banning is done at the community staff's discretion and usually only follows repeated violations of our guidelines. If you try to get around a ban, we may take further action including banning any past or new screen names. If you post on behalf of a banned member, you may also be banned without notice or warning. Because of our privacy policy we do not announce or discuss bannings, and we ask that our members also respect this policy.
